Libraries represent the memory of mankind and serve as irreplaceable repositories of human thought and action. As such, it is the mission of the BFPL to provide a well-rounded collection of resources and those services that contribute to the informational, educational, cultural and recreational needs of this community.
General Library Objectives
- Access: to provide residents of all ages with access to library services and resources
- Reference: to make available the technological infrastructure needed to support quality informational services and provide a conduit to greater library services
- Literacy: to promote lifelong learning and intellectual freedom and serve as a place for children to discover the joy of reading and the value of libraries
- Recreation: to provide opportunities for recreation through literature, music, videos and computer applications
- Community: to serve as a focal point for community activities and interaction among diverse groups
The BFPL subscribes to the principles of the First Amendment to the US Constitution; the Library Bill of Rights of the American Library Association; the "Freedom to Read" statement and the "Policy of Confidentiality of Library Records" of the ALA.
The BFPL is a vibrant center for community life and learning and reflects the pride the Borough takes in itself.
